Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
The new book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is in fact about Abraham Lincoln, as if he was a vampire hunter! The book – a work of fiction authored by Grahame-Smith is amazingly interesting in it’s premise. Lincoln’s whole life is told from the point of view of him as someone aware of the existence of vampires and doing his best to get rid of him – the root cause of his obsession is because, as told in this retelling of Lincoln’s life – his mother was killed by vampires.. Most of the deaths of close relatives of Lincoln, as retold in the book are caused by vampires.
It’s interesting to think of Abraham Lincoln as a character similar to Van Helsing. Although the book is fiction, what if Abraham Lincoln really had been a vampire hunter – could the scenario even have been possible for someone like Lincoln to be a vampire hunter? One thing I doubt is that a vampire would ever go after the mother of someone as high profile as Abraham Lincoln. This could be resolved in the book one of two ways – either the vampire that killed Lincoln’s mother did not know whose mother he was draining the blood from, or Lincoln had not become prominent in his political life yet and was still an unknown. It will be interesting to read the book and see which approach the author took – or if he even took that into account at all. Also, wouldn’t being a vampire hunter pretty much take up your whole life? How could Lincoln have devoted the time necessary to care about the country and become a president if he was busy slaying and seeking revenge against vampires? If he was busy becoming a professional vampire hunter?
