Is a werewolf good or evil?
Readers,
Many of werewolf believers think there is such a thing as a “good” werewolf. If this were true then wouldn’t there be a werewolf “superhero” of some kind? Since after all these beasts have more strength and passion than a “normal” human being. There is no doubt that when in human form these werewolf people can be good people, but when in werewolf form there is not such thing as a good werewolf. The fun and glamorous life of being a werewolf by way of protecting the innocent, and gathering with other wolves in werewolf form to have meetings is just a myth. This partly boils down to the disease that the werewolf carries when the human is in wolf form; he is no longer in control, no longer human, and instincts guide him to attack anything and everything living. The human in werewolf form is not to blame because he would have no recollection of the events that took place while he was a werewolf. If for instance the werewolf was caught and then transformed back into human form while in “police custody” he would be no more to blame than if police were to blame you, a person who cannot remember what happened the night before, is he to blame? This is not an act, the werewolf in human form is not pretending to forget because to him the events never even took place. This is one fact that cannot be avoided, “all werewolves are evil;” there is no such thing as a “good” werewolf, and there is no such thing as free lunch.

Do you love werewolves?
Do you turn into one?
Do you know when they transform?

I’m here to merely offer one point: werewolf does, in fact, have the word “wolf” in it, something I think people forget. They have separated werewolves from wolves, when in reality what a person researching the topic should be doing is connecting to two entities: human to wolf. Wolves are not evil, merely instinctual. They hunt to eat, they attack to protect, and they care for their pack and young. If anything, it would be the human side of a werewolf that brings out this “evilness” you claim werewolves are, for humans are the ones who kill without any regard to the value of life and for no reason. In the end, I think it’s important to realize that werewolves are individuals just like anyone else, and therefore some have no regard for others and some merely want to live peaceful lives.

Milana,
Very well put. It would be the human heart that would determin if a werewolf or any demi-human is evil. Most people if they are given power then they will most likely abuse it.
And to Werewolf967,
There is atleast one known werewolf superhero, Wolfsbane from X-Men. And there are quite a few of stories about good and helpful werewolves. Also the disease is never mentioned in the myths and legends, and as for memmory loose people can force them selves to forget or even act like they forgot, which would prove that the individual is evil.
The problem is the concept of what a werewolf is has been tainted and corrupted by films and novels because they don’t care about the facts. And that’s true for many creatures.

Milana,
I agree with what you have to offer, of course wolves have instincts. Except. We (humans) see them (werewolves or wolves) as operating on instinct therefore we make “excuses” for their action because they are not human. What I would like to add is that just because we humans sometimes are able to use weapons (or not) to defend ourselves and some people die as a result of this does not say that we are not using our instincts. We humans too operate on instincts to kill, whether the death is justified in “your” (our) eyes or not, we are culturally adapted to certain views on life that are seen as evil and not evil, being human allows our moral values to corrupt “our” views of being between instinct and just pure evil.
Werewolves kills a human because of instinct - is this justified because he is an animal?

Swiftpaw Fatfox,
I was trying to think of an example where I might need a werewolf’s help and why he might want to help me…
couldn’t think of one

The human in transformed state never loses control, it is merely influenced by the instints of the wolf. Your view of werewolves has been tainted by the movies and legends that you’ve seen and been told of. I doubt that any werewolf would be a superhero. I wouldnt.

Wolfman3,
If the human never loses control then why is he transforming into something he may or may not want to be?
July 14th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Because thats who he wants to be.

I think I have an explanation to why some werewolves loose control of themselves when they transform. I beleave that there are two types of transformations, physical and magical. Magical transformations use the energy around the one transforming and so doesn’t have as great of a drain on them. But physical transformations use the energy with in one self and because of that it would leave the werewolf at the edge of starvation. Well when a carniverous animal is starving what will it do? It will attack any creature that could become food for it. As for memmory loose people can force themeselves to forget and also when you are starving your brain is in a sub-consiouse state. A forced transformation could be caused by the moon but also by emotions.

I have read the comments that you ppl posted…with some i agree with some i don’t but in order not to offend someone i won’t tell what is what.
I like to put it this way… as we know (books, movies, stories, myths…) werewolfs are sworn enemys of vampires (even they are not mentioned here), and vampires are demonic creatures as they live on human life force…blood, and wolfs exist of flesh, and it is not specificly human. I think that werewolves are oposite force, the some sort of “divine”. If you ever watched
” Van Hellsing” there is a scene where the monk reads on latin, something like “…he who pray on the full moon, shall become werewolf…”and in the picture there are 2 soldiers that become to fight and to transform, one in werefolf (if i saw well i think it is a crusader), other in vampire. So i think that payer is mentioned as speach with the God, and my opinion is, that if the vampires are to be superior than humans and be evil, than werewolf need to be more superior but more neutral and keep all in balance, and…well make sure vampires don’t take over the world, heheh.
And about that “evil” thing…to be werewolf there are like 2 pieces fusioned in 1…a human and wolf. Humans, mostly, are reasonable and piecefull, and the core of all, wolfs are teamplayers, work in packs and are not evil, they don’t attack if they are not endangered or if they need to feed. So they are more neutral than evil. And with 2 good sides, i don’t think it can be made a evil thing. Perhaps they are the caretakers… i dunno, what do you ppl think?

well even though the concept of a war between werewolves and vampires is fiction, most living creatures doen’t like the undead. 1- they are walking corpses and that’s not natural or right, and a bit disturbing; 2- for carniverous creatures the undead probably doen’t taste that good, I doen’t even think a hyena or a leucocroota would eat them.

Well, that is a good point of view Swiftpaw, although i didn’t ment to say that werewolf are hunting vampires for food. I think it is more dog-cat fi you know what i mean, when dog see cat, he just want to kill her even if not to eat, so i think werewolf are not hunting them for food, i think it is in their nature to kill them. But i apritiate your opinion.

you idiots are retarded!!! your minds have been warped by movies, directors see werewolves and they try to make it seem like it is a problem. a Lycanthrope is the scientific term for someone turning into an animal. there are werewolves, werecats, wereboars, werebears, etc… these all are not limited to the full moon but some can transform whenever. this is determined by the will of the person. ex: if they have a strong enough will they can turn whenever and they are usually good, but for someone that has no will to stop turning into the creature over and over they are pure evil. the reason you dont see any were-superheros is because if they turned infront of many then it would be on the news and slayers would be called in to take down the race. this is because even if a were creature does the greatest deed people will still see them as monsters, but some are still willing to help even at the cost of their lives.

wolfman2299 you are right that Hollywood and movies have effected how people few were-creatures. Any one who reads the folklore and myths of many cultures you can see that during ancient times humans and other sapient creatures lived side by side in peace, but it seems that as most cultures began to become more technologically advanced and began separating themselves from nature, along with the rise of intolerant religions, these creatures began to be viewed as evil and as monsters. It is very sad that humanity can be so intolerant of other creatures and of their own kind.

Im a werewolf and for those people who do not believe can go die in a mud pit. And it is true that hollywood has corrupted our image if you knew who we actually were were calm. Our diets consist of some human but we mostly eat pig or sheep. So please aknowledge that we are in harmony with humans because we are humans.
