Hi Everybody,

I thought I’d do a quick post on werewolf art that I’ve found around the internet. There’s some pretty cool werewolf artwork out there depicting different people’s interpretation of what werewolves look like. This werewolf art depicts what I envision the wolf from little red riding hood to look like…it’s a muscular no-nonsense cartoon-like figure….the bad werewolf of fairy tales. It comes from this werewolf art site where you’ll find practically a whole werewolf art gallery and many more werewolf pics. Also, I think that this werewolf art picture is especially cool. It’s a terrifying werewolf sketch of a werewolf who is in the middle of what looks like an animal carcass. The artwork looks like it’s been designed for a comic book. Another pretty cool image is the Never Cry Werewolf DVD Cover Art. It’s another scary depiction of the werewolf….really the stuff of nightmares. If you’re looking for something a little more fun, check out this piece of werewolf art entitled “Rudolph the Red Nosed Werewolf”. (I think that about says it all on that piece of artwork!) And finally, check out this werewolf artwork it’s kind of a cool illustration of a werewolf transforming. The artist put the human, half transformed werewolf, and fully transformed werewolf all into the same piece of art. Pretty cool.
Anything that is good within the werewolf is most definitely human. I do not believe that humans retain consciousness when transformed into werewolf form, but many of the werewolf readers do, so, I will take into consideration a couple of the points brought to my attention. The first argument is if whether there are good werewolves or not. I believe not, but, if there were “good” werewolves it would mean that while transformed into the werewolf he would be conscious on his human level and aware that he is, she is, in werewolf form. If this were true, it would also be true that his human “side” would be making the decisions for his “werewolf body;” it would mean that the human is controlling the werewolf and that any ethical or moral decisions that were being made, are technically, being made by the human. The human controlling the werewolf in werewolf form would be something unique, if he/she was werewolf and knew of this fact he would have a whole new set of powers before him. There would eventually be some sort of werewolf superhero to help humanity (which is my next point). We all know that with all of the werewolves on earth one would eventually stand to this noble cause. But in the end, when all is said and done about the werewolf, I do not believe this is possible. I do not believe that the werewolf in werewolf form would ever understand humans and our needs. A werewolf without consciousness of being human would not know how to help us, protect us, or defend us…this type of werewolf is the werewolf of fiction.
It is true that there is pain when transformation occurs or when you get close, the mind and body will become weak. The mind was not made for the type of stress it will be under while a change begins to take place, it’s not natural for humans. Black outs will occur, you may not transform completely, but your mind will have felt the pain of trying to transform, headaches are likely, sweat, and often losing consciousness for a brief period of time. Officially there is not a name for the black outs, the times when you may have felt transformation, but didn’t transform. You will wake human, you will not have transformed, and you will remember the pain.
I’m just going to interrupt Werewolf967 for a minute and refer everyone to some werewolf books that I’ve found that may provide some good information concerning good werewolves vs. evil werewolves, facts and fiction of werewolves, and everything else about lycanthropes, because the best way to learn about werewolves (apart from knowing one or being one, is of course research). So here we go…
One that looks interesting is called The Werewolf Book: The Encyclopedia of Shape-Shifting Beings. It is a study of folklore and case histories of lycanthropes, and is over 400 pages long.
Another book that studies werewolf lore is the Compleat Vampyre: The Vampyre Shaman, Werewolves, Witchery, & the Dark Myth of the Undead. It is research covering wolf cults in Europe.
Finally, there’s a book called The Essential Guide to Werewolf Literature which covers not only fiction, but nonfiction werewolf myths and superstitions.
