There are not too many legends or myths surrounding weresheeps.  The few that exist talk more about creatures with the head of a sheep and the body of a human than an actual werecreature called a weresheep. Nevertheless, the movie transformation scene is fun to watch!

So, while we’re waiting to see Tom Cruise slay some vampires, looks like we’ll have to wait even longer to see him as a werewolf.

He did however get coay with Werewolves of London in one of his older movies. Check this out – Tom Cruise dancing to the song Werewolves of London in the movie Color of Money. He even does a few howls “aaaoooooss!” at 1:48 and 2:20.

In the movie, Erik Estrada (of CHIPS fame) is back on his motorcycle playing a DEA agent who runs across the fearsome Chupacabra.  The chupabras are invading Texas, and soon a battle mounts…and this version of the “battle of the Alamo” is one for the history books – full of a rabid pack of blood-sucking chupas! “Chupa this!…”

The movie takes place during a zombie apocalypse, and centers around a zombie who saves a human. The zombie, whose name is R, normally loves braaaiiinns, but falls deeply in love with this human. As the relationship between human and zombie becomes more intense, R starts to appear to become more and more human.

In fact, other than The Mortal Instruments, City of Bones (which does not actually even center around vampires), I cannot find any vampire movies that have been confirmed to release in 2013!  Oh, there are rumors – as there always are – of different movies in the works that may come out this year, but none have confirmed a date, which makes one wonder if they are even close to final production stages.

So, here are the rumors….

Only Lovers Left Alive – A romantic vampire movie that had begun shooting in 2012 and was rumored to be coming out in 2013, however there is not yet an official release date.

Innocence – A vampire movie that was announced in 2011 had some casting announcements last year, but no news since then.  It looks like it may still have a 2013 release date, but it’s unclear.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter – A Dracula movie that has supposedly been in development for a few years at one point was rumored for a 2013 release, but with no new information, it seems that has been delayed.

Vampire Academy – This is a movie that alot of fans are looking forward too. For a couple of years there have been rumors about a 2013 release, however, the movie is still showing as “In development” and there is no sign of any progress…so fans who were hoping for a release this year might be disappointed…

Here are some movies featuring werewolves we have to look forward to in the upcoming year:

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones – What if the legends whispered around campfires are true? The movie follows Clary Fray who discovers a the world is full of demons, Shadowhunters, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves.  Set to release August 23, 2013

The Wolverine – The wolverine is not exactly a werewolf, but close enough…(perhaps we’ll call him a close cousin)    In this Marvel Comics movie, Hugh Jackman is back as The Wolverine Logan.  Part of the X-Men installment of films, the movie centers around a trip Logan makes to Japan. Set to release July 26, 2013

I, Frankenstein – This upcoming horror movie is about none other than Frankenstein’s monster!  The movie’s screenplay came from Underworld film director Kevin Grevioux….does this mean we’ll see a lycan or two?  Hard to say.  Originally, some concept art of a werewolf which might be in the film was being floated around the blogosphere, and fans were hopeful there would be one with the link to Underworld….but now?  Noone is quite sure.  I guess we’ll know ore on September 13, 2013 when the film is released.

Wer – This movie still has many “ifs” about it since there is only a sketchy outline of the film and right now only a tentative release date.  For a while last year, they wouldn’t even confirm that it was about werewolves!  As it looks right ow, the movie is scheduled for sometime in 2013, and is supposedly about an attorney who gets a feeling her client might be something other than human…specifically a werewolf.

It stars the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, and CeeLo Green among others.

There are a few movies that depict the female shift – most notably, there is the She Wolf Of London. (Yes, I also wonder what the obsession is with London and werewolves!!)

The original movie was a film from 1946 about a series of vicious attacks that hit London. Detectives start investigating a supposed “wolf-woman” that may be responsible for the attacks. Who is the She Wolf of London?

In the 1990s there was a TV series by the same name that had some female werewolf transformations..here are a few clips.

Here is how the conversation went…

Ground Crew:  We’re filming the Lone Ranger.  The rig is a bit down the road.

Werewolf967:  Really! Will there be werewolves in the movie?

Ground Crew:  Werewolves?

Werewolf967:  Yeah, werewolves! That was in the original concept for the movie…

Ground Crew:  You mean, like, real werewolves?

Werewolf967:  Yeah, you know, werewolves!

Ground Crew:  Really? Uh…no, I never heard that they were ever going to be in the movie…there are no werewolves in the movie.

How could someone so closely associated with the movie have no idea that werewolves were supposed to be in it originally?! So disappointing.  Apparently werewolves were pulled from the movie because of how much it was going to cost them – estimates with werewolves in the picture had the movie at a budget of around $250 million!  In my humble opinion, despite the cost, they should have stuck with the idea!

After getting over our shock at the lack of shapeshifters in the movie, we continued on down the road and saw Johnny Depp standing on top of a rig in the middle of a scene dressed as Tonto (no sign of the Lone Ranger himself).  And alas, there was not a werewolf in site.  You know what is funny though? The production company  is called Silver Bullet Productions!!
Coincidence? I think not!

Where in the movie do I find the “werewolf” look-alike?
About half-way through the movie!  Setup: The crew members land on an alien planet, and one of the crew members gets infected by an alien lifeform and is left for dead.  Then:  The survivors make their way to the spaceship, and the attack begins!  All of a sudden, out of nowhere, the crew member that was infected by an alien, makes an appearance and jumps into the screen to attack!  The guick glimpse that the camera offers gives you an image of what appears to be hair growth on the chin and someone that almost has a wolf-man appearance, he also has a very werewolf-like pounce.

So did they try to put werewolves in Prometheus?
In reality, the alien infected person is not meant to be a “werewolf”, but in the few seconds you get, it sure resembles one! It’s hard to say if the movie-makers knew what resemblances they were making…I doubt it. But still, I think it looks like the Wolf Man.. What do you think?

If you’re not sure what Dark Shadows is, it’s a new movie out that’s actually based on a 1960s soap opera. The movie is about a 200 year old vampire named Barnabus Collins who is imprisoned by his nemesis and woman who is in love with him – Angelique Bouchard. Angelique turns out to be a witch, who in her broken hearted vengeful state locks him up in a coffin for 200 years. Barnabus eventually emerges from his shackles (with a little luck) and pursues rebuilding his life, family and town.

I will not tell you who the werewolf turns out to be in the movie, but you might be able to guess! I will say that I wasn’t too big a fan of how they portrayed the werewolf – even though you only catch a brief glimpse, in that glimpse you can see there’s too much CGI, and I didn’t care for it’s look either – I’ve seen much better portrayals.

It was actually called Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman - and it was a real movie matchup that Universal Studios put on the big screen in 1943! In the movie, the Wolfman (Lawrence Talbot) believes that he can find a cure to his “curse” from Dr. Frankenstein, so he goes to Dr. Frankenestein’s castle, and eventually finds himself in a fight with Frankenstein himself!

In a matchup between Frankenstein and a werewolf, who wins?

In one corner – Frankenstein!
Frankenstein has sheer size and weight in his favor – he’s huge at 8 feet tall and incredibly heavy, making a physical confrontation with the creature quite intimidating. He’s also quite intelligent, able to understand and make thought-out decisions, which could make a battle a little more difficult than one would initially think.  And, of course, Frankenstein is a true – and actual – monster!! On the other hand, he’s shunned by humanity which has left Frankenstein with a huge feeling of despair which he has immersed himself in. Despair often clouds good judgement and could lead to hasty not well-thought out decisions which could decide the battle in favor of the opponent very quickly. Frankenstein is also very very slow to move, which would be a huge advantage to an adversary in a confrontation.

In the other corner – the Wolfman!
The wolfman has the benefit of having both human intelligence and the strength, prowess, and speed of the wolf. This means that battles weigh heavily in the favor of the Wolfman – not only can he think like a human, he also has his predatory wolf instincts which are well-tuned for battle!  On the other hand, the wolfman’s same instincts that could lead him to victory in a battle, could overwhelm his human senses and thoughts with their intensity, which could make rational decisions hard to make and could  give the win in a battle to a more careful thinker.
