German Shepherd Takes Bullet for Family, Saves Kids
A pet German shepherd named Noah died taking a bullet for three children and their mother after a road-raging gunman opened fire on their SUV, Georgia police said Sunday.
The mom and her kids weren’t even the targets of the shooting, Atlanta Police Sgt. Gregory Lyon told NBC News. They were just bystanders in an argument between a gun-wielding motorist and another man outside an Atlanta strip mall Friday.
“It’s a really sad story for the whole family,” said Lyon. “I’m a big dog lover. It’s just a sucky thing to happen the day after Thanksgiving.”
Fortunately, the mom and kids weren’t hit by the gunfire, according to police. But the unidentified gunman struck Noah and blasted the windows of the SVU, spraying shattered glass over the seats.
“The dog took the bullet for the kids so the kids would be safe,” a witness told NBC affiliate WXIA in Atlanta.

Wolverine Almost Met Freddie Mercury
Most diehard comic book fans have already been notified of this news, but for those who don’t, Wolverine almost met Freddie Mercury once.
Years ago Marvel turned down a submission of the X-Men’s Wolverine crossing paths with the Queen singer.
Comics Alliance recently reposted about the rediscovery of these panels, which were originally posted on artist Steve Bunche‘s site the Vault of Buncheness.
Wolf Travels Hundreds of Miles to Northern Arizona
A female gray wolf from the Northern Rockies traveled hundreds of miles into northern Arizona, marking the species’ first appearance in the region in more than 70 years and the farthest journey south, wildlife officials confirmed Friday.
A wolf-like animal had been spotted roaming the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and the adjacent national forest since last month. Biologists collected its scat and sent it to a University of Idaho laboratory for testing, verifying what environmentalists had suspected based on its appearance and a radio collar around its neck.
“The corroboration is really good to get,” said Michael Robinson of the Center for Biological Diversity.
Biologists don’t know the wolf’s age or from where it traveled. The radio collar wasn’t transmitting a signal, and cold weather forced biologists to suspended efforts to capture the animal and replace the collar.
The Idaho lab might be able to glean more details about the wolf from its DNA, but U.S. Fish and Wildlife spokesman Jeff Humphrey said that could take several weeks or months.
“We’ll let this wolf be a wolf where it’s at, and if it decides it’s going to move back north, it can do that,” he said. “Or if somebody joins her, then that’s nature taking its course.”
Wolves often roam vast distances in search of food and mates. But the farther they go, the less likely they are to find a mate, said Ed Bangs, who led recovery efforts for wolves in the Northern Rockies over two decades before retiring from the Fish and Wildlife Service in 2011.
“It’s looking for love,” he said. “It leaves the core population and doesn’t know the love of its life is going to be right over the next hill, so it just keeps traveling.”

Prince Lestat Novel by Anne Rice recently released
In 1976, an unknown author from New Orleans and here (she went to Richardson High School) named Anne Rice reinvented a genre with Interview With the Vampire. In her world, the creatures in question were alluring, complicated beings capable of great longing, love and fierce violence. They were vampires as seen through the lens of their former humanity.
Rice went on to become a literary superstar, with 32 books now published, all best-sellers. She continued the Vampire Chronicles, starring the irresistible “brat prince” Lestat, through a dozen books, then went on to witches, werewolves, demons, angels and even a couple of books about Jesus Christ.
