Keeping secrets is something that every werewolf must learn in order to survive. You may be able to share your secret with some humans, but for the most part, your secret will stay hidden. While keeping secrets can be difficult, there are some techniques on how to keep them that can help.
How to keep secrets:
#1: Destress! The first step in keeping secrets successfully is to destress. Stress causes your emotions to run high which can cause you to be much less capable of thinking clearly – you might let your secret slip simply in a fit of anger or frustration. Stress can cause so much emotional turmoil that you might simply forget why it was so important you keep your secret to begin with. Learning to manage your stress level is a huge step towards learning to keep secrets.
#2: Don’t tempt yourself! One of the main problems that many people fall into that causes them to not keep their secrets is they tempt themselves into telling their secret. They’ll either consciously or sometimes subconsciously drop hints that they have a secret. For example, they might say something like “I have a secret, but I can’t tell you…” (a very conscious attempt at sharing their secret), or they might do something more subconscious like start talking about werewolves out of the blue. Don’t put yourself in the situation to begin with! Don’t bring up the topic of werewolves yourself. You’re tempting yourself to share your secret.
#3: Remember what is motivating you! If you find yourself tempted to share your secret with a random person, take a minute to remember why you’re keeping the secret to begin with, this can sometimes be the easiest way to keep it. Security and safety are just two of the more pressing motivations you want to remind yourself of. Remember, not everyone is ready to know your secret.
