Werewolf transformations are not the only kind of animal transformation believed in. The term that refers to human – animal metamorphosis is therianthropy. Lycanthropy is a form of therianthropy. The belief in therianthropes is not a modern-day belief, and is referenced throughout history and cultures including Native American folklore, Chinese legends, and even Altaic mythology. Theriantrhopic means part man / part beast – something commonly depicted even as far back as ancient egyptian art – for example, the jackal-headed god anubis was one of many half human – half beast gods that were worshipped.
