Tom Cruise will be Van Helsing!

Tom Cruise has starred as a vampire before (Lestat from Interview with a Vampire), so when will he take on the role of a werewolf? Well, if the rumors are true, he’ll be getting on the big screen again with vampires (and maybe werewolves) soon! He won’t be playing a werewolf, but rather the rumor is that he’ll be starring in a movie in the role of none-other-than the vampire hunter Van Helsing!

They say that the remake of the movie Van Helsing is coming soon, and Tom Cruise is scheduled to star as the titular charachter. The remake was announced last year by Universal Pictures, and is expected to be a reimagining of the Van Helsing character made famous for movie-goers in 2004 by Hugh Jackman. They say it will be more “grounded in reality” but that is about all the information that has been released as to the plot. There is no information yet as to what else the plot of the movie will be or if there in fact will actually be werewolves (there were in the Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman).

So, while we’re waiting to see Tom Cruise slay some vampires, looks like we’ll have to wait even longer to see him as a werewolf.

He did however get coay with Werewolves of London in one of his older movies. Check this out – Tom Cruise dancing to the song Werewolves of London in the movie Color of Money. He even does a few howls “aaaoooooss!” at 1:48 and 2:20.

  1. God why? Van Helsing is one of my favorite movies, and I always hoped that some sort of good remake, or, better yet, a sequel, would be announced. But Tom Cruise? TOM CRUISE?!? He does NOT look AT ALL like a “vampire hunter,” nor does he look like the kind of person to hold a sword, let alone swing it. Hugh Jackman, though it would be redundant, is one of the few actors who can pull off the burly vampire-slayer/hunter that the Van Helsing name is famous for.
It’d be like casting Tom Cruise as the vampire Alucard in the Hellsing OVAs. There is simply no compatability

And “grounded in reality”? That line alone makes me cringe. It sounds like it will be a money-grab by marketing toward teenagers and moviegoers who watch movies because of the cast alone.

With this little bit of information, I have absolutely no hope for this “remake” if it even gets off the floor. I really hope it doesn’t, or new information reveals a dramatic turn.

That all being said, I will watch it to form my own opinion. I just hope I stand more of this “upcoming” movie than I could Twilight.
