The vampire killing kit – real or not? Well, one sold recently for a good amount of money. Sotheby’s – a famous global auction house – got a hold of a vampire killing kit believed to date to the early 20th century and sold it in an auction in 2003 for $12,000. The kit included a wooden stake, crucifix, rosary, vials of garlic powder, and 10 silver bullets. Yes, silver bullets – and no, it’s not a werewolf killing kit, it’s supposed to be for vampires. Here’s what the label on the lid says:
“This box contains the items considered necessary for persons who travel into certain little known countries of Eastern Europe where the populace are plagued with a particular manifestation of evil known as Vampires.”
So do silver bullets kill vampires? Well, there is not clear consensus on the subject – some say a silver bullet blessed by a priest fired into a vampire’s heart will do the job, while some say any kind of silver will kill a vampire. The more commonly held beliefs however say that vampires are impervious to silver bullets, rather werewolves are the ones susceptible. So then, perhaps these vampire hunter kits was intended for both.
