In Twilight, the Cullen vampire family considered themselves “vegetarians” because they lived off animal blood, not human blood. Werewolves are however different – they do not crave human blood. They crave meat. Any kind of meat. So the questions is could a werewolf go totally vegetarian? Is there such a thing as a vegetarian werewolf?
The very nature of the werewolf compels him / her to love and eat meat. A vegetarian is the exact opposite – a vegetarian – in its most basic form – is someone who does not believe in eating meat, fish, or fowl… vegetarians subsists solely off of nuts, berries, and vegetables. A werewolf in its human form would find it very difficult to live off this kind of diet.
As a human, the werewolf has a tendency to like meat more than vegetables and other items. They find the smell of meat alluring. A steak dinner or pork chops would be one of the ideal dinners for the human werewolf. If the werewolf in human form tried to adopt a totally vegetarian diet (tried to be a vegetarian werewolf), they would always have a slip up in their diet – breaking it with a burger, or meatloaf, or steak, when their meat cravings became too strong. Being a vegetarian would not be something that they could comfortably sustain for any length of time longer than a month or so.
When in werewolf form, the meat craving for the werewolf is even stronger – werewolves that have shifted crave meat the way a vampire craves blood. But many types of meat can satisfy the werewolf, and many werewolves find that if they eat a full meat dinner – or even fish! – before they shift, the craving in werewolf form is fairly easy to manage. It’s also worth noting, that even without eating a steak, or pork chops, etc. before they shift, werewolves can still avoid their meat-craving urges. A very experienced werewolf that has mastered other things associated with being a werewolf – for example they have meastered when they shift – could also master their cravings in werewolf form, enabling them to not eat meat even if they hadn’t eaten any meat in a year! In other words, it is possible to be a totally vegetarian werewolf – in both human and werewolf form – just very difficult and would take alot of concentration and effort.
It’s also worth noting that while werewolves crave meat in both human and werewolf form, they do need more than just meat to live. This is similar to the wolf – meat is a huge percentage of the wolf diet however wolves have been known to eat berries and fruits!
