The central theme of the woodcutting focuses on what appears to be a man on his knees with what might be a child in his mouth….a man whose bestial instincts have taken over….a man that is a werewolf! This image was made hundreds of years ago in the year 1512 – long, long before Hollywood popularized the werewolf. Images such as this show how deeply rooted in human’s history werewolves truly are. It helps us remember that before there was Jacob from Twilight or George from Being Human, there were artists that were creating images of creatures people truly feared, believed in, and even worshipped.
