What is the fear of vampires called? Sanguivoriphobia!

Are you afraid of vampires?  If you are, then you have a phobia called Sanguivoriphobia.

Sanguivoriphobia is the “fear of blood-eaters”.  This fear manifests itself in humans that are afraid of vampires!  The fear includes both people that believe vampires are real and those that don’t believe they’re real.

Symptoms of Sanguivoriphobia include:

  • panic attacks
  • anxiety
  • shortness of breath
  • excessive sweating

Sanguivoriphobia is a real phobia that can be debilitating to those that have it.  The symptoms appear when people are presented with vampires in either written or visual form. It does not matter if the vampire is real, or if the person rationally knows the vampire is not real – symptoms present regardless of physical presentation of a vampire or non-physical presentation of the vampire including movies, books, and artwork. For severe cases, sometimes even just conversations about vampires can bring on a severe panic attack.  Many people are embarrassed that they even have this fear so are unwilling to tell anyone about it – because of this, cases of Sanguivoriphobia go untreated and unknown.
