5 Horror Board Games to stay inside and play!

  1. eldritch horror board gameArkham Horror – Many horror game fans consider this game one of the best horror games there is.  Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure board game where you work to prevent an alien being from entering gates and destroying the town of Arkham; the game is inspired by H.P. Lovecraft.  It is however considered to be a fairly complex game not for those faint of heart with gameplay that can last a very long time.  Some say just learning the instructions can be a feat in iteself.

    • recommended age: 12 and up
    • average gameplay: says can be 2-3 hours for 2 players, however many people find due to the complexity can last considerably longer (many times up to 6 hours); setup of the game can take a long time as well (30 – 60 minutes)
  2. arkham horrorEldritch Horror – A cooperative horror-adventure board game inspired by Arkham Horror and based on the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft.  In the game, players search the globe for clues to solve mysteries to prevent the end of humanity.  Fans of the game say that if you are either 1.) a fan of Arkham Horror 2.)find Arkham Horror to complicated or 3.)looking for a fun horror game you’ll like Eldtrich Horror.
    • 1 – 8 players
    • recommended age: 13 – 15 years
    • average game play:  2-3 hours for 2 people, add on extra time for each additional person
  3. zombicide board gameZombicide – A horror board strategy game where players work to survive and find weapons to fight of zombie hordes.  This game is often compared to Last Night on Earth, with plans typically preferring one or the other – you’ll have to play both to see which you like better!
    • 1 – 6 players
    • recommended age: 13 – 15 years
    • average game play: 20min – 3 hours (depending on if you’re playing an expert board or beginner board)
  4. last night on earth board gameLast Night on Earth -This is a zombie board game which “pits small-town heroes head-to-head against a limitless horde of zombies”.  It is promoted as a fairly fast-paced game, and has the extra feature of being able to play as either a hero (human) or a zombie.
    • 2 – 6 players

    • average game play: 60 – 90 minutes
  5. mansions of madness board gameMansions of Madness – A horror board game based on the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft where you and other investigators search a spooky house to stop the Keeper who has control of monsters and other evil powers.  Many fans really love the game, though some say that the rules are fairly complicated, and game set-up can take a long time (although worth it!)
    • 2 – 5 players (more players, better gameplay)
    • recommended age: 14 and up
    • average game play: 3 hours
