There are a few different types of shapeshifting. The most common of course is that like what happens to the werewolf – where the body actually goes through a metamorphosis and actually changes into a different configuration. It is typically a painful process that involves the entire structure of the being changing – bones, skin, structure all take on a different shape. A second type of shapeshift is when a being can just switch between two bodies without having to go through a physical transformation at all.

Interestingly, there is third type of shapeshift which involves another layer of skin and flesh growing on top of the existing person or animal. This type of shapeshift is called the “fold over”. It is said that it is typically a pretty painless process as the actual configuration of the being does not change. In a sense, it is just a “second skin” that spreads atop the original.

    I think i might be a werewolf

  2. And for Therians and Otherkins, maybe a ‘Werewolf’ with a wolf awareness or extended identity then should connect with the spirit and do these shifts like the two others.
Like astral shifts, lucid shifts, mental shifts and phantom shifts. But, ‘Werewolves’ experience physical shifts.

AngelMingan: For the most part, but that’s like saying all black people steal things. It’s a generalisation of an area with many aspects. There are minorities within the Therian/Otherkin groups that believe in physical shifting.
Source: Spending about 4 years with them.

@wolflover: Here, and I am really tired of saying this; acting like a dog/wolf, does not make you one.

  6. Zoey says:

So every other night I have a dream of being a black wolf and running through the woods, I have always liked wolves but when I see a picture of a black wolf I’m in love with the picture of the black wolf and….. I live right next to the woods, does this mean I’m a wolf and every other night I shift into a black wolf if not what does this mean?

  7. Mary says:

@Zoey: Dreams are the brains way of recognizing the events of the day. You love wolves especially black wolves and hence the black wolf in your dream. Plus you probably look at that forest or woods every day so hence the forest feature of your dream. This does not make you a werewolf. It’s just your brains way of recognizing the events of the day.
